關於歌曲的歷史... 來自網路資訊:

早在 1920 年代早期，「日昇之屋」在美國黑人文化中常用來作為妓院的代名詞。傳統版本的「日昇之屋」歌詞所描述的並不是男性經驗，而是少女淪為娼妓之後的悔恨。這首歌是在被 The Animal 改編後，才變成一首描寫男性經驗的歌曲。

根據民謠學者 Alan Lomax 在 1941 年的著作 Our Singing Country 中指出，「日昇之屋」原本是傳統英國歌謠

這個名叫「日昇之屋」的妓院是否真的存在呢？一本書名為《與眾不同的紐奧爾良》(Offbeat New Orleans ) 的旅遊指南堅稱，早在十九世紀中晚期， 1862 年到 1874 年之間，「日昇之屋」這所妓院的確存在，並且有地址為證︰ 826-830 St. Louis St. 。而「日昇之屋」是以這所妓院的鴇母 Marianne LeSoleil Levant 的姓氏命名；她的姓氏翻譯做英文便是「日昇之屋」的意思。The Animals 的主唱 Eric Burdon 則認為，這根本只是旅遊業為了吸引觀光客而杜撰出來的故事。

這首老歌" House of the rising sun "，演唱版本非常多，原本是一首十九世紀末的黑人民歌，1937 年在肯塔基州被採集到，原始曲調據說頗接近黑人老歌手 Leadbelly 的" Black girl "，盲人民歌手Doc Watson 唱過藍調風格的版本，歌名為" Rising sun blues "。後來在美國各地民歌手之間口耳相傳，這首歌逐漸風行起來。民謠歌后Joan Baez在1960 年的首張專輯唱過，她唱的版本是學自波士頓大學同學Debbie Green；民謠搖滾之父Bob Dylan 1962 年也灌唱過這首歌曲。1964 年，藍調搖滾風格的The Animals 動物合唱團唱出這首歌的搖滾版，主唱 Eric Burdon 獨特的嗓音和鍵盤手 Alan Price 電子琴的獨奏，使這首歌彷彿是找到了最適合它的外衣，該年九月在英美兩地均登上排行冠軍，進而風行全球。這首歌內容描述黑人貧民區的孩子為了討生活而誤入歧途，時至今日，依然是大部分黑人小孩一生的寫照。有人考據，" 日昇之屋"是真實存在於紐奧爾良，它是位於該城 French Quarter 法國胡同西北方的風化區 Storyville 裡面的一家妓院。 

About  Joan Baez

瓊·拜亞（Joan Chandos Báez，1941年1月9日－）是美國鄉村女歌手，作曲家。瓊出生在紐約，父親為著名墨西哥裔美國物理學家Albert Baez，母親為蘇格蘭裔Joan Bridge Baez；瓊有一姐一妹。瓊育有一子，名Gabriel Harris。

瓊的很多作品都與時事和社會問題有關，並於1960年代活躍於反戰運動，並在當時交往了著名民歌手巴布·狄倫(Bob Delan)，唯兩人戀情不長，因狄倫漂泊不定，1965年即告分手。

1975年，瓊為了紀念與巴布·狄倫的往日情，譜出了名曲「Diamond and Rust」（鑽石與鐵鏽），也成為瓊最富盛名的歌曲。

瓊出道表演已超過50年，發行超過30張專輯，著名作品包括「Diamond and Rust」, 「Where Have Been The Flowers Gone」, 「Donna Donna」。最新的作品為2008年發行的「Day After Tomorrow」。
